Have a Question?

Below are some common questions that people ask The Pet Parlor

What do you do exactly?

As a pet sitter, we come and take care of your precious pet(s) in your home while you are either at work, on vacation or traveling. We will come take care of your dog or cat however many times (visits) you feel your pet needs per day. Most dogs require a minimum of 3 visits per day (early morning, afternoon, and bedtime) and some do better with 4 visits (early morning, around noon, a dinner visit, and a bedtime visit). Cats usually do great with one or two visits per day. The Pet Parlor requires that cats be cared for at least once every 24 hours.

I'm not going away, but I am gone for a few hours while I'm at work. Can you help?

Absolutely! The Pet Parlor will provide a much needed break (or two) for your dog during the middle of your work day. This gives them a chance to go potty, get some fresh air, play a bit, and if time and weather permits, even go for a short walk! You no longer have to worry or feel stress about your friend’s comfort (or your carpet) while you are away at work.

How much does it cost?

Please see our Services and Pricing page. Don’t forget our Pet Sitting and Mid-day services offer you a multi-pet discount if we are caring for more than one pet! Call us for details.

How long do you stay?

We never place a limit on the amount of time we spend with your pet. Our goal with each and every visit is to make sure your pet is happy, well cared for, and content by the time we leave. The time we spend is determined by the comfort and care needed for your pet(s). We have been known to sit and read a book to a happy contented dog or cat resting on a warm lap!

Will you give medications?

Yes! This, of course, depends on the dog or cats cooperation! The Pet Parlor will want to be sure (if it is CRITICAL that your pet gets the medication) there is a backup plan in place in the event that we are unable to administer the medication.

Do you service my area?

The Pet Parlor covers the northwest Indiana area as well as a small part of Illinois. These areas include:
Munster, Lansing, IL, Schererville, Dyer, Griffith, Highland, Hammond (some areas are not covered), Crown Point / Lakes of the Four Seasons, Saint John, Portage, Hobart, Chesterton, Valparaiso.

Will you take in my mail or water my plants while I'm gone?

Of course! Newspapers and mail are a service that’s offered at no extra charge to you. We will also follow your instructions regarding opening and closing your drapes, turning lights on and off, etc. For some services (such as watering plants) there is an extra fee.

I'm concerned about letting a stranger into my home in my absence.

That is completely understandable. As a professional pet sitting company, we put our name and our reputation behind everything we do. The owner/operator, Pat Thompson, has been pet sitting for over 20 years and understands the importance of trustworthiness and dependability in the pet sitting business. We will supply you with a reference list upon request.

Do you spend the night?

If we have staff available, we do offer overnight services. There is an extra fee for the overnight service. Feel free to call and discuss your needs and if we have availability for this service for the dates you require.

How much notice do you need?

If we hold your key, we can usually add you in right away when you need. To be on the safe side, please call to check availability as soon as you know your dates and times that you will need service.
