National Pet Day is April 11

National Pet Day is a holiday that we celebrate annually on April 11th to honor and appreciate our cherished pets. This day encourages people to celebrate their pets and to recognize the joy and happiness they bring into our lives.  We can all agree that they do just that!

How Do We Celebrate National Pet Day?

On National Pet Day, people are encouraged to think about ways to make the lives of their pets better.  Some simple suggestions might be to take their pets for a walk or give them a special treat. You could spend extra time playing with them, or just simply give them some extra love. It is also a great day to donate and begin a volunteer commitment to a local animal shelter or rescue organization to help support pets in need.  This is a truly rewarding way to give back if you love pets.

Who Started This National Pet Day?

The holiday was created in 2006 by Colleen Paige, an animal welfare advocate and pet lifestyle expert, to bring attention to the plight of animals in shelters and to encourage people to adopt pets from shelters instead of buying them from pet stores or breeders.
